In Ternopil, a man set fire to his ex-wife’s house after a conflict: police are investigating the circumstances
On August 2, a report of a fire in a private house on one of the streets in Ternopil was received by the police emergency line. The victim stated that around 11:00 PM unknown persons set fire to the entrance door. A forensic and investigative team from the Ternopil District Police Department was dispatched to the scene.
Law enforcement officers found out that the arson was committed by a 56-year-old resident of Ternopil — the victim’s ex-husband. During the investigation, it became known that a conflict had arisen between them. The woman had previously contacted the police for help. At that time, the suspect was served a temporary restraining order: he was prohibited from approaching the complainant and her residence.
However, the man violated the restrictions and at night came to the house and set fire to the entrance door. As a result, the door burned down and the fire partially damaged the wooden stairs. Preliminary material damage is estimated at about 50,000 hryvnias.
The suspect had prior legal problems. Police are clarifying all the circumstances of the incident. The issue of holding the man criminally liable is under consideration.
